How it works

The miim sleep aid and feeding light offers you flexibility in choosing how you settle your baby to sleep, while helping to link sleep cycles and create healthy sleeping habits.

White Noise

White noise has been known to improve sleep since the 1960's. White noise works to block out sounds that disrupt babies as they move between sleep cycles. Sudden loud sounds can disrupt your baby, waking them suddenly or preventing them from falling asleep. White noise comes in many forms, it can be described as a soothing hum similar to a fan, dryer, airplane, or vacuum cleaner. We've selected a frequency that is gentle on the ears, soothing, and calming for baby, mum, dad, and siblings.

Pink Noise

Pink noise also creates a constant sound that helps to mask outside noise, it is a form of white noise with reduced higher frequencies. Pink noise has attracted more attention recently due to it's ability to improve deep sleep. It resembles the sounds of steady rainfall, or wind. Pink noise tends to be louder to the human ear.

Sound Safety

Both our white noise and pink noise sounds do not exceed 70db which is the loudest possible measure of sound that is safe on little ears. We recommend introducing the lowest sound setting and increasing the volume only if you need to. Hospital nurseries have a maximum of 50db, this is so babies can still learn to ignore some background noise while sleeping. 85db or more for 8+ hours can lead to noise induced hearing loss, the miim sleep aid & feeding light is well under this level so you can be confident it is safe on little ears.

Red LED light & White LED light (feeding light)

Newborn babies and young children naturally wake overnight for feeds. Turning on a big bright room light can wake baby a little too much, making it harder for them to resettle after feeds. The Red LED light works to encourage the natural production of the sleep hormone melatonin. Melatonin puts their sleep into a more rhythmic pattern. Babies under 3 months do not produce their own melatonin and do not have a concept of the difference between day and night. The Red LED light does not interfere with your child's circadian rhythm and melatonin production like a white light may, it will actually promote restful sleep. We recommend using the Red LED light for feeding, changing, settling, and sleeping. The White LED light is there to support you when you're camping, travelling, or for those nights where you need a little stronger light.
